Kubera Buddha Statues

Jambhala - Kubera is the Buddhist Kubera i.e.God of Wealth. In Buddhism he became a lokal guardian of the quarter. He is shown as pot-bellied and wears rich ornaments. He carries Jambhara (lemon) in his right hand, while in his left hand he holds a mongoose (nakula) vomitting jewels. Kubera (Tib. Nam Those) is one of the Dharmapala or Digpalas. Kubera is protecor of wealth an of the North. He is holding a banner of victory in the right hand and carrying the mongoose who vomits a wish fulfilling gem. Kubera´s abode is said to be Alaka in the Himalayas, enriched with wealth and abundance. He is always surrounded with yaksha generals and Kinnars. He may have sometimes a third eye also. In Durgatiparisodhana Tantra, it is stated, Kubera the great king of Yakshas, bowed before the Lord Shakyamuni Buddha and said: O Lord, I together with eighty eight great war generals of Yakshas, will persevere in removing every fear of that great being who holds this tantra. I will give wealth and grain in abundance. I will protect his country and provinces, his people, servants, relatives, friend, sons, daughters,wive and the rest. I will take care of his oxen, cows, asses, camels, sheep,elephants, goats and the rest. Jambhala is thus especially invoked for generating wealth and prosperity. There are many legends relating to his role as guardian of all the treasures of earth and the treassures belonging to the people. Kubera is worshipped both by the Hindus and Buddhist alike.
