To his followers he serves as a protector deity to overcome difficulties, as protector against enemies and to give people courage. In the legend of the Ramayana, the wife of Ramas (incarnation Vishnu) Sita (incarnation Lakshmis) is kidnapped by the demon king Ravana. Only with the help of Hanuman and his monkey arms succeed Rama Sita to free. He symbolizes the loyal and devoted devotee of Rama (Vishnu).
